Fishing 4 Ghosts
Pollution is one of the threats to marine life, and ghost fishing nets represent a threat to several species such as dolphins, whales, seabirds, fishes, that can become tangled and eventually die. Fishing4Ghosts aims to help reducing ocean plastic pollution from fishing by transforming materials collected from beach and harbour clean-ups into sustainable fashion accessories.
Additionally, 10% of profits are donated: 5% is used to encourage fishermen to donate their nets, and 5% to the NGO Global Ghost Gear
Initiative which has been working on this problem on a global scale.
Mar Ilimitado supports this initiative that aims to mitigate the anthropogenic impact on the marine ecosystem. If you want to contribute to this initiative, you can find these accessories for sale in our OceanLab or online on the website: https://fishing4ghosts.com

Campaign Stop Bycatch
Every year, 200,000 seabirds die in European waters, accidentally caught in fishing hooks, lines and nets. But it doesn’t have to be this way.” The Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) is an organisation dedicated to bird and its habitat protection. One of its initiatives is the Stop Bycatch campaign, which aims to reduce the accidental capture of seabirds during fishing, a problem that affects thousands of birds every year and threatens several species. Mar Ilimitado has collaborated with SPEA in this cause, receiving donations directly in our office to support this campaign. Together, we can contribute to the protection of marine life and a more sustainable future. #StopBycatch is a regular campaign and you can contribute by clicking on this link.
Visit Spea to find out more about birds and the work developed by this organization, and how you can also have a role on the conservation of this species.
